The archpriest Emilian Cioran – a life in tre service of the Church

Emilian Cioran had a very complex life due to his family
experience who witnessed both welfare and crisis. He was born, in a ′pure
romanian family , in Rasinari, the village chosen by Andrei Saguna for the
financial and cultural support iniated by Emilian Cioran’grandfather, Coman
Cioran.
He begins his studies at the confessional school from the village, than he
applies for the State Gymnazium from Sibiu where he studied in hungarian
and thus experienced the estrangement feeling. He continued his studings at
the Theological Institute from Sibiu through his countrymen’s financial
support and according to the Andrei Saguna’s Organic Statute was ordered
priest in Rasinari.
Father Emilian Cioran knitted his pastoral activity with many other
actions. He set up ′The Handicraftsmen’s Reunion from Rasinari ′, he
supported the so called ′Poormen’s Fund  and he involved directly in the building
of the House of Culture.
He had a special contribution during the first world war, fighting for the
national unity of the romanian people, climaxing by his participation to the
the Great Meeting from 1st December 1918.
In 1924, while being rector of Sibiu, he served as priest at the metropolitan
cathedral and in 1930 he was president of two cultural associations: ′The
Clergy Association Andrei Saguna  and ′The Romanian Handicraftsmen’s
Reunion . Concomitantly he was also metropolitan counseller and secretary of
Gojdu Foundation.
Father Emilian Cioran implied in Church’s life by his rich publicistic
activity, too. After 41 years of serving, he had to endure the persecution of the
communist authorities, but continued to keep his ′terrible serenity of the
eternity , according to his son’s words, the philosopher Emil Cioran.
He was burried in Rasinari, in 1957, nearby his great ancestors, lovers of
romanian peolpe and culture.
