Reflections on the writings of the Apostolic Fathers The Apostolic Fathers, through their letters, are the ones who create the link
between the letters of the New Testament and those written by other Fathers
of the Church.
The writings of the Apostolic Fathers were meant to serve the pastoral
needs of the community. Their characteristics, such as the literary
unsophistication and the religious tone are destined to tell the whole world the
good news of God’s Son Embodiment in history. From these letters flows a vast series of moral and religious teachings to those intended as receivers. In
those pages we referred to the letters of Saint Clement, Saint Ignatius
Theophorus and Saint Polycarp of Smyrna.
By reading these letters we realize that they resemble, as construction and
style, the Pauline ones in particular
The letters are rooted in the Holy Scripture and contain numerous didactic
and pedagogical rules as well as recommandations for real circumstances in
people’s lives.
